This Mantra comes from the Sikh prayer Sukhmani Sahib and is used for protection. I wrote the english verses after being evacuated during the 2018 fires in California. I wanted to remind myself that my soul, my true essence is always protected. Chant this song when you long to feel held by the touch of grace and trust in the Divine.

“There is a long history of scholars attempting to deny the phrase Ayka Maee as meaning “One Divine Mother” and instead translating it to the word maya, which means illusion. This is believed to be due to the patriarchal bent of various scholars over the years. As we continue to work to break free from the conditioning of our patriarchal society, we can tap into the energy of this mantra to celebrate and acknowledge the vital female dimension grounded in the universal human condition.Recite this mantra in recognition of its original intention: of honoring the “One Divine Mother.” – Puranjot Kaur Khalsa, Spirit Voyage blog

When I sat down to record this mantra a brand new english verse came through. Instead of my previously created lyrical translation of the mantra the speaker voice changed and suddenly the Divine Mother herself was speaking. This is her message to us all, her beautiful children.

My Darling my child no matter how many miles there’s nothing in the whole wide world that can take my love from inside of you that can take my love away

aykaa maa-ee jugat vi-aa-ee tin chaylay parvaan. ik sansaaree ik bhandaaree ik laa-ay deebaan. jiv tis bhaavai tivai chalaavai jiv hovai furmaan. oh vaykhai onaa nadar na aavai bahutaa ayhu vidaan. aadays tisai aadays. aad aneel anaad anaahat jug jug ayko vays.

My Darling my child no matter how many miles there’s nothing in the whole wide world that can take my love from inside of you there’s nothing in the whole wide world that can take my love away –Kiranjot Kaur

translation: The One Divine Mother, the visible world, gave birth alone to three deities One, the Creator of the World; One, the Sustainer; and One, the Destroyer Everything goes as That One decrees, and all are under divine Command The Creatress watches over all, and, marvel of marvels, remains invisible to all. How wonderful this is! I bow to Her, I humbly bow The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, She is One and the Same

Divine Voice Indian Classical Music Note singing practice

I believe that EVERYONE can sing and that we are each designed as divine instruments! In Indian Classical music practice we surrender to the practice, to music herself. It is a practice of letting go of who we think we are and any limitations we believe we may have. It is an exercise of becoming present and allowing music to move through like breath through a flute. We can gently allow each note to brush the strings of our hearts instrument and become the voice of our soul.

This vocal practice works on breath support, intonation, vocal range, dexterity and tone, note recognition, projection and presence.

This class is open to ALL no experience needed! We spend the first 45 minutes in a blissful call and response note singing practice and end with chanting and or a composition in a particular Raag (set of notes). My teacher, Dr.Ustad Narinder Singh Sandhu, taught me that:

“You do not need to know anything about music to sing. You do not need to have a beautiful voice or talent to sing. The only thing that you need is love.”

Kiranjot Kaur is a Vocalist, founding member of Copper Wimmin, Kundalini Yoga teacher, Indian Classical music teacher and a devotee of the Divine Mother. Copper Wimmin were featured on Democracy Now and their song Bleeding Rivers was featured on the Showtime television series The L Word. In 2006 Kiranjot refocused her career around classical Indian music and spent five years living and studying under the guidance of her beloved teacher Dr. Ustad Narindar Singh in Amritsar, India. From her travels through India to Chile and back she discovered that her favorite thing in this world is using her voice as a call for revolutionary self-love and healing. No longer interested in performance where the audience is separate from the performer, Kiranjot invites the audience at all her events to be transformed by the healing power of their own voice as well as the practice of singing together as ONE.
